Beginning November 2, 2015 and running through the week of January 4, 2016, we will be posting directions for two or three blocks each week from Moda and their designers. The blocks are free downloads you can find right here…but act fast! The blocks are only available for a few weeks! New blocks will be posted Monday mornings – watch for the emails to let you know they are up!
Each block will measure 6.5″ unfinished, and at the end Moda will provide setting instructions, too! Of course, you can also create your own layout, which is what makes it a shuffle.
Here at the shop we will be playing along, too, sewing our blocks in various colorways. Bring in your blocks each week to show us and collect a stamp on your Moda Sampler Shuffle card (and pick out a cake pop on us!). Bring in your finished quilt by February 4th, 2016, and your card filled with stamps, and get your final stamp and a $20 gift certificate.
The size of the blocks makes them perfect for a scrappy look, but if you prefer a more controlled palette, consider using 2 jelly rolls or 2 layer cakes, or one of each. For those of you who say, “The scrappier the better!” we will be selling fat eighths and also “cake pops” (single 10″ squares) that you can mix and match to your heart’s delight.
If you are wondering what kind of fabric requirements the Moda setting calls for, you can check that out right here.
Here is a pdf on making corner triangles easily (you’ll use this technique in block 3!) and one on creating the flying geese inner border shown in the Moda setting above. In the shop you can also find lots of tools to make those flying geese fly!
